The Ever-present One

God wants to invade every corner of your life and bring light to it. He already knows better than you do what's sitting in the dark corners. He sees and knows it all and still He loves you! God sees everything. He is everywhere. He's as real as your boss, your spouse or your Sunday School attendees. He is the one to please.

Increased awareness the ever-present God brings consistency to our lives called integrity. Integrity means I'm the same all the time, all the way through - no matter what. Whether I'm by myself, with my friends or with Billy Graham I behave the same way. I listen to the same music. I say the same things. I go to the same places. Don't live on the fence, with one foot in the world and one foot in the church. God is not fooled even if everyone else is.

Although God is everywhere, there is something we can do to increase His presence in our lives. Stir up your passion for God. James 4:8 says, "Draw near to God and He will draw near to you." There is nothing more attractive than someone who is in love with you. When my husband and I were dating, as I realized the depth of his feelings for me, my feelings for him increased. As my feelings for him increased, his feelings for me increased. This cycle culminated in our decision to join our lives together for life in marriage.

Apply this cycle to your relationship with God. He never changes so His love for you can't increase. However, you can increase your awareness of His love. His love for you is so vast you could spend a lifetime exploring it and still have oceans of undiscovered love. We develop our relationship with God the same way we do with any person.
  • Spend time with Him (more than once a week.)
  • Talk to Him as if He's in the room (because He is.)
  • Read His love letters to you: Psalms, Ephesians, John...
  • Be still and listen to the still, small voice of His Spirit.
  • Find out what He likes and do it!

He promised to draw near to us when we draw near to Him. Make the first move. You will be amazed at His response.
