Seek with heart and soul
Rise, build God’s sanctuary
You are His temple.

-1 Chron. 22:19, 1 Cor. 3:16

As Christians we are God’s temple. Today building his sanctuary means Biblically building up ourselves. Below are three great ways to start.

1- Set heart and soul to seek Him. In the morning seek God in prayer. Prayer is much deeper than a list of requests - personal or otherwise. It’s dialogue with your Maker. Be still before Him. Push beyond the discomfort with silence. I love how Bluetree summarizes 1 Kings 19:11-13 in their song Life's Noise: [God] wasn't in the fire, He wasn't in the quake, He wasn't in the wind, He's in a whisper. Shut down the request line for a day and just listen for the still, small voice of God.

2- Grow in love. “…Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.” (1 Corinthians 8:1) Ephesians 4 teaches about growing up in Christ by building ourselves up in love. Scripture meditation is a practical way to do this. Meditation isn’t difficult or strange. I like how one woman said it: “If you can worry, you can meditate.” Think about the word throughout the day. Read 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 aloud every day. Personalize it. “I am patient, I am kind, I am not jealous….” The word of God will change you when you apply it to yourself in regular daily doses. I have a friend who writes a scripture she wants to understand better on an index card, carrying it with her so she can read it throughout the day. Meditation is that easy.

3- Pray in tongues every day. For some this is a foreign idea. Others may be thinking, “Heretic!” But what does the word say?

“…one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God; for no one understands, but in his spirit he speaks mysteries. But one who prophesies speaks to men for edification…One who speaks in a tonuge edifies himself…"
-1 Corinthians 14:2-4

Tongues is a way to edify yourself. If you have never learned about speaking in tongues, or you’ve only heard “it’s not for everyone” or “it’s not for today” I encourage you to ask God to show you His heart about the matter. Here are some scriptures for more study: 1 Corinthians 14:1-5, 1 Corinthians 14:15, Jude 20
