Show me Your glory!
Gracious, showing compassion.
Self-existing One.
-Exodus 33:18-19, 34:6
When Moses asked God to see His glory, God could have said anything. He could have said, "I am the great and mighty one, terrible in fury!" He could have said, "You'll never truly see me! I am obscure and impossible to understand in any way." Though many people believe the God is such a person, He's not. When He answered Moses He started with
good
being gracious
showing compassion.
Later when God hid Moses in the cleft of the rock and proclaimed His name He said:
"YHWH YHWH EL (Self-existent, eternal God), compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth; who keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression and sin;"
-Exodus 34:6-7
He took initiative toward mankind to dwell with us! All those detailed instructions in Exodus and Leviticus were given because God WANTS to dwell with us. He was showing mankind how to be close to Him without being destroyed by His presence. He wanted so much to be close to us, that He finally came Himself in human flesh, sacrificed Himself as our substitute, and rose again so we can be free from the fear of death. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord when you are in Christ. Praise God!
He loves us so much! Mark 1:1-11, John 3:13-16
