You are the treasure
Found in a field by the Lord.
For you He gave all.
-Matthew 13:44

Many of us learned to interpret this parable in Matthew as follows: You are the man in the story. While wandering about in a field you stumble on a treasure - Jesus. After finding this treasure, you sell everything you have to get the field and the treasure in it.

But here is another way to understand this parable. God is the man and YOU are the treasure. God is the merchant and YOU are the pearl. God is the fisherman and YOU are the good fish! Jesus said He would make His followers fishers of men. Anyone who has dealt with people knows people you train do as you do not as you say or think. We are fishers of men because He was.

God's nature is to seek and save the lost. He'll dig through a field full of dirt and rocks to find you. He paid the highest price for you that could ever be paid. You are His treasure.

knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ... - I Peter 1:18-19

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. -John 3:16

But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoptions as sons.  -Galatians 4:4-5

This isn't just a New Testament idea. God has always been our Redeemer. He has always the Pursuer.

"Fear not, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by name; you are mine...you are precious in my eyes, and honored, and I love you...." -Isaiah 43:1,4

Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, who formed you from the womb: "I am the LORD, who made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by myself, -Isaiah 44:24

For you are our Father, though Abraham does not know us, and Israel does not acknowledge us; you, O LORD, are our Father, our Redeemer from of old is your name. -Isaiah 63:16

God loves you. You are His pearl of great price. He gave everything He had to get you - Jesus...

who gave Himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works. -Titus 2:14

You are precious.
